2013 AQHA Bay Gelding
Aka “Rook” | All-Around Gelding | Barrel Prospect, Ranch Horse, Trail Partner. Rook is hands down one of the most impressive and versatile horses I’ve had the pleasure of working with. From his athleticism and intelligence to his build, color, and quiet confidence, this horse truly has it all. Whether you’re looking for a performance partner, a reliable trail mount, or a family-friendly ride with the tools to go back into the arena — Rook checks every box. This gorgeous gelding was previously patterned on barrels and has retained every ounce of his talent. With a tune-up, he could easily step back into the ring and run consistent 1D/2D times. Life circumstances took him out of the barrel pen for a few years, but he’s sharp, responsive, and hasn’t missed a beat. He has the foundation, heart, and speed to thrive in competition again — or the mindset to settle into any other job you give him. Rook has been used on cattle, worked in brandings, and attended local jackpots. He’ll rate and push a cow, drag logs or gear, and has had a rope thrown off him with ease. He’s got the kind of solid, multi-discipline training that makes him a true utility horse — capable, willing, and always ready to work. Despite his power and agility, Rook is also remarkably sensible and trustworthy. I’ve had young kids ride him, and he steps down to their level without hesitation. He’s the rare kind of horse that can run fast, turn quick, and still take care of a beginner or guest with confidence and calm. Under saddle, Rook moves beautifully. He has a fluid walk, jog, and lope, an excellent stop, snappy rollbacks, flying lead changes, and polished lateral work including spins and side passes. He’s soft in the bridle and incredibly responsive to seat and voice — a dream to ride whether you’re in the arena or out on the trail. Speaking of trails, Rook has been everywhere. He’s traveled across multiple states and taken on all kinds of environments without issue. From small-town coffee runs to rugged mountain climbs, nothing phases this horse. He’s confidently handled strollers, traffic, trains, dogs, bikes, semis, and anything else thrown his way. He’s surefooted and dependable on mountain trails and would be equally comfortable as a camping companion or pack horse. Around the ranch, Rook is the one we count on. He’s carried flags, walked tarps, dragged heavy loads, and taken on every challenge we’ve thrown his way. He’s the kind of horse you reach for when you need a job done right. On the ground, Rook is a complete gentleman. He has excellent manners, loves to be bathed and groomed, stands quietly, and will always meet you at the gate. He’s easy to handle, easy to love, and ready for someone who wants a true partner — whether it’s in the arena, on the trail, or working cattle on a ranch. Watch his video, then come meet this impeccable gelding. He’s one of the good ones — and he’s ready to go in any direction you choose.
